For the next two weeks the airstrip on Placencia Peninsula will be closed to be completely resurfaced. The residents are quite happy about this as there will be no noice for at least 10 days. The question of the day appears to be are all cruise ship programs bad. The report in the Belize News points out why the two existing cruises they operate could be very beneficial to the environment and their society. The second cruise ship program could carry as many as 700 to 800 passengers through the narrows and then havig bus tours to take the passengers on various trips such as a 6 day Eco Cultural Tour of Toledo.Original source: RelizeNews.com. According to the Belize News there is oil in Belize but at this time no one knows, or no one is talking about how much oil is there. This is causing dissention because they know how much oil is needed by the United States and how third world countries have benefited from having oil to sell. In San Pedro, Belize the water is turquoise in color and so clear blades of sea grass and lobster traps can be seen as far as 20 feet (6 meters) down. In the waters off the beach you can see Parrot fish, Angel fish, bull sharks, Spanish mackerel, yellowtail snapper, Needle-nose ballyhoo fish leaping from the water and even barracuda.
